In the Club
I don’t know how I even felt my phone vibrate
with the bass pulsing so heavy through my body.
A TikTok DM
from you.
Stomach drops
I swallow down the fire
as I watch
an unknown girl
bathed in blue light
loose brown curls bouncing
skintight tank top
eyes closed
dancing in the club.
Ironic
that you
sent this
to me.
I casually turn the fire back on you:
“Damn
where did they get this recording of me
dancing in the club?”
I hit send with a smirk
then I lost myself in the beat again
closing my eyes
moving in perfect time
to Rich Gang’s Tapout
in the club.
My phone vibrated.
You again:
“It’s AI
and you’ve never been to the club.”
I suck in air and smile
adrenaline and blood rush.
You could have run with the joke
but chose to correct the record.
What?
Does that image bother you?
Me
free
in the club.
I turn down the radio
in my car
and adjust my hijab in the mirror
eyes sparking back at myself.
You wanna play with me?
Come
let’s keep dancing.
