We Write, We Grow

Remember when you first knew you wanted to be a writer?
I was eight at the time. All of my friends wanted to be firemen and policemen. I wanted to write Batman comics. (Sometimes I still do.)
Back then, I thought it was about the action.
Now I know it’s about the words.
We often say words have meaning. But they have more than meaning. They’re a kinetic force—able to cut, convince, and comfort. They linger. They travel. They land in places we may never see.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to understand their power more. I also hope I’ve grown more careful—and more intentional—in how I use them.
I was sifting through some old writing the other day. Pages from a time before I knew to show instead of tell, to choose active verbs, or to give even minor characters their due. I felt proud of the attempt… and a little embarrassed by the execution.
And then I stopped myself.
Isn’t this what it’s all about?
We live; we grow.
We write; we grow.
At least, hopefully we do.
Because writing is a journey. One where no one holds all the answers. No one does it perfectly. And sometimes we lose ourselves chasing the right word, the right sentence, the right way in.
Wherever you are on that path, we hope you keep going. There will be rejection. There will be acceptance. And there will always be moments where growth feels slower than you’d like.
But there can also be community.
And when you find the right words—or even when you’re still reaching for them—send them out into the universe. Whatever you’re offering, there’s someone out there ready to receive them.
